Palestinian Nonviolence Charter

Core Program

Taghyeer Movement has created a Palestinian Nonviolence Charter that combines all the values and principles of Nonviolent Identity. In coordination with our partner organization Youth of Sumud and 42 representatives of Palestinian organizations, Taghyeer launched a meeting in the Freedom Garden of Twani Village to discuss the suggested draft of the Palestinian National Nonviolence Charter. We aim to build a coalition of 70-100 Palestinian organizations that will adopt the Charter as a guide for common goals and sign it.

The Palestinian Nonviolence Charter serves as a declaration of principles and values of nonviolent identity. The Charter is essential to build partnerships and create a new nonviolent environment that allows for social and political change. The Charter acts as an instrument to unite the civil society through adopting nonviolence as a response to the actions of the fragmented Palestinian political arena. This occurs through creating a coalition of numerous organizations, communities, and individuals who sign on the Charter. The signing of the Charter is an act of commitment to its principles and a call to action.

The rationale for this effort is clearly described in and tied to the Charter’s vision statement.

Hence, Taghyeer Movement is confident that the Charter will attract the majority of the Palestinian people with its inclusiveness, clarity, and values. On the political level, we want to propose the Charter to the Palestinian and international political leadership in order to leverage political support for our vision.

It is vital to note that although Taghyeer leads the process with its partners to generate support around it, the Charter is not owned by Taghyeer. This eliminates any potential competition with other organizations since the ownership of the Charter is shared among all the signatories.
